October Cases: “I Laaik it when you talk foreign in October blondie” and the Featured Brewer Case

October has multiple themes. Firstly it is the month after which the world’s most famous beer festival is named, even though that festival actually happens in Munich in September. As many of you know, we had our own festival in September so this month we will start by bringing in some German style to make up for last month. Our September box was strictly local so we are adding a foreign twist and that includes the all time favorite beer of myself and Mr. Three Skulls as well (I tested some last night: so tasty!).

We have brought in a German twist, but also some Belgian magic. You will find blonde and brunette ad-Weiss on how to best swallow some great Pils. I will tell you more about what you are getting in the note that you will be able to read in the case when you receive it. But between the name of this mixed case and the past two paragraphs you should be able to guess some of the dominant styles already.

The other theme is the Craft Beer Revolution and we are profiling one of the true revolutionaries in the South African craft beer scene. We will profile different South African craft brewers going forward. It is important to us that we continually bring the SA craft brewers closer to you.

This particular profiled brewing company has many fans but it has come to our attention there are also some people with negative opinions on their approach, which is only natural in good business. Some people criticize their choice of Bavaria for their brews, but we would like to give our own view on The Brewers & Union:

They taught all South Africans that beer can be stylish, beer can be trendy and beer can be hip. They did this all whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality and consistency. On top of this, they managed to subtly challenge our perception of what beer could be and what it should taste like.

To quote my friend Kevin Wood: “My business wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for the ground broken by the guys from & Union.”

And to add to this, in my opinion, Beast of the Deep is one of the best bottled lagers our country has ever seen (or tasted). In honour of the progress made by Rui, Brad and the team, we bring you the profiled brewer of the month: & Union.

Rui will be posting shortly to tell you what he thinks about the special case that we are bringing you at a very reduced price. And in the box you will receive some more information to add to your experience. As well as this; follow @andUnion on Twitter and you could win an extra Featured & Union mixed case every week during October. In the meantime you can pick up your own Featured Case here.  Happy tasting.
